Watson on track for Twenty20 championship, Ashes

Friday, May 15, 2009

Injury-prone Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is expected to be fit for the Twenty20 world championship and the Ashes series against England, Cricket Australia said Wednesday.
Watson suffered a groin injury last week while in Dubai playing against Pakistan, forcing him to miss the lucrative Indian Premier League, in which he was named player of the tournament last year.
Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said the 27-year-old, whose career has been plagued by injuries, was assessed by medical staff this week.
"Scans have confirmed a minor right groin injury to Shane and we expect him to be fit to play in the ICC World Twenty20," Kountouris said.
"He?ll be monitored over the coming weeks and is expected to be available for consideration for Ashes selection."
